I always get asked “So what do you do on the farm?” Uh, well I cook dinner most nights, look descent around 3 times a week, and give Jason rides while he drives the tractor. He manages the farm and I manage the household. And if I’m being honest, I could do a whole lot better at my role, haha.
Now, I have learned a couple things in the last 5 years being married to a farmer.
The cattle will always be out when we are trying to leave for a trip.
We will always check the sprinklers/fence on our way to town (no matter how hungry I am or if we are running late)
And there are truly no days off.
Today, we woke up to SNOW! I was so excited. I thought we would check the cows and then play with Verity in the snow. BEST DAY EVER! But I should have known. While normal people are snuggled up watching their fave movies & playing outside on a snow day, let me tell you what we were doing- NOT watching our fave movie in the warmth of our home or playing in the snow. But today, I grew my qualification list as a farmers wife. I’m not sure if I became more country or realized just how extra I really am.
I walked into our local feed store in my Uggs and Sherpa and asked where the powdered milk for calves was. The guy chuckled at me when he asked me a bunch of questions and I looked at him and said “Ummmm I don’t know, help”.
I bottle fed the calf in my bathroom on a bed of towels.
My natural instinct led me to take a bunch of selfies with the calf.
My other natural instinct led me to name the calf “Lolly”.
And I documented the whole thing on Instagram.
Just when I thought I would forever be a city girl, I threw a sweater on a calf and let it warm up in my bathroom. Now we just pray that little Lolly lives.
